#32 The Fitness Tech Podcast: Special Mud Mafia Edition
Apr 30th
Jim and Carrie get together for a chat about some major updates to the Mud Mafia webpage, team additions, changes, an upcoming races and mileage expecting to double the current numbers. The Mud Mafia webpage has some new content! Carrie was able to overcome her normal technical deficiencies to overhaul the site adding a racing calendar, a place to update racing mileage for the Family, a place to add races, and more details about where the Mud Mafia has been and where we expect to be this year.
Jim and Carrie talk about training mileage (ahem, 150 for Jim in April) and the upcoming Lincoln full marathon on May 1st. May is setting up to be a big month for the Mud Mafia family. Between some ultra distance races, an Ironman, several marathons, and halfs, the mileage to date of over 530 will double before June. Notable family member achievements are discussed including Dan Camp, Double Jay, and the 40 or so runners that have made the first generation of the Mud Mafia 60 strong. Now, if you want in the family, you have to know someone in the family. Stay posted for some big projects in the coming months from Jim, Carrie and the Mud Mafia!
#23 The Home Tech Podcast: Google Apps for Domains, File Recovery from Hard Drives and Memory Cards, Hulu Plus, Colour Calibration, and Yahoo! has sold Delicious
Apr 30th
Jim, Andrew and Christian are joined by good friend of the show, Chris Lux for this weeks installment of the Home Tech Podcast.
With everyone back on deck, and the Skype Gods working in their favor, the guys kick off with some listener feedback from Michael in Connecticut who shares with the show how he uses the often talked about SyncToy to copy his critical data between his Windows Home Server, and his cloud storage provider of choice, Mozy.
Moving on from backups, Jim talks about his recent experience of recovering data from a friends’ failed hard disk, using the “6-inch drop method”, which involves dropping the disk onto a hard surface from 6-inches which sometimes seems to work as a last ditch effort. The guys go on to talk about the other various methods they have used, such as freezing a faulty drive (in a zip lock bag to prevent condensation build-up), and even the KISS method of swapping the faulty disk into a different PC. Although these techniques do work from time to time, the most failsafe method is still taking a regular backup!

“One of the things I see all the time is when a new management employee signs up for the stock program, they almost always start at the maximum payroll deduction we allow of 10%. Then a few months later, sometimes even sooner, they drop out of the program and sell out the balance in their account. In comparison, the few that sign up for smaller amounts, say 5%, tend to stay in the program longer and actually build up a decent balance.”
