#37 The Home Tech Podcast: Rich’s Random Podcast Generator Beta
Jul 31st
Warning: Long Show Ahead!
One weekend, Rich O’Neil (and some of tech guys that hang around the Home Server Show Podcast) thought, “what would happen if we just recorded some of the conversations we have around our tech stuff?” The result was this podcast that we recorded on July 31st. Rich’s Random Podcast Generator was born! Interested in your feedback.
We used Google+ Hangout to record the conversation. If this project is successful, we will try it again on it’s very own RSS feed!
We chatted about SSD Drives, RAID, UNRAID, problems with Apple, Android and Windows Phone 7 and much, much more.

Drobo Dashboard 2.0 Continued: Tools, Drobo Copy, Dashboard Preferences and Some Final Thoughts
Jul 30th
I have been reviewing a Drobo in some form or fashion since December 2010. Some reviews over at the Home Server Show and some here at the Average Guy. The first part of this review can be found at Drobo Has a New Dashboard! Welcome Version 2.0 with a Drobo S and 5 Drives In recent months, Drobo has released a new version of their dashboard (v2.0.3 updated for this review) for both their consumer and enterprise products. For a company that is taking steps in the right direction when it comes to back up hardware, this software upgrade replaces a fairly vanilla offering from the last several years. It’s a definite upgrade and one that users of a Drobo should test out quickly. I found no reasons not to upgrade. If you are a Drobo owner, the upgrade is free.
With the new Dashboard, you can: (from Drobo.com)

Exercising in the Heat
Jul 6th
By: Mindy Herzog
Exercising in the heat can be dangerous. When Mother Nature turns up the heat, as many of us are experiencing now, it is important to take the proper precautions. Continuing your exercise program as you normally would can and will be dangerous. Keep in mind the following when exercising in the heat:
Temperature
The best time to avoid exercising outdoors is between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the exposure is the strongest. If the mercury level rises above 85 degrees F, you may want to consider exercising later in the day or beating the heat by exercising earlier in the day.
Explanation: As you exercise your body produces large amounts of heat that must be dissipated. If it isn’t, then the body’s temperature will continue to rise to dangerous levels. High temperature and humidity impede the body’s natural ability to dissipate heat.
