2011 Trek up the Tower–Climbing My Life Away with Results
February 26, 2011 – It was another early AM wake up and arrival at the First National Bank Tower in Omaha Nebraska for the 5th Annual Trek up the Tower vertical stair race. Strait up 40 flights of stairs, it’s not just a physical challenge, but a huge mental one as well. I was able to record most of it with some audio and video coverage over at http://theaverageguy.tv.
I ran this year’s race with Jamie Eikmeier pushing me up the stairs (I now recommend you do the race with a training partner) and finished 10 seconds faster than last year. We made an attempt to shoot some video while heading up the stairs but the recording failed. I think that might have slowed me down a bit. Maybe my sub 7 will come next year?
Gallup fielded over 60 people for this race. Congratulations to Ryan Wolf and Jamie Eikmeier for getting another record turn out from the Omaha Campus!

Registration for the Omaha Marathon is now Open! Lots of New Stuff This Year
A new website http://omahamarathon.com that comes with a new look and feel, a new blog and a countdown timer are just a few of the improvements the Omaha Marathon organizers have made this year. They are still green this year with recycled glass medals (got one last year and they are cool!) $1 of each registration is donated to the Buford Foundation and last but not least, this year’s emcees are “The Biggest Loser” couple Mary and Amy Wolff.
I ran this race last year to a new PR for the 26 mile distance. It’s a hilly course but not as bad as people have made it out to be. The event organizers do a great job and the race gets better and better support each year, This will be my second Omaha Marathon and third year in the race. Consider it!

Training For A Climb: Trek Up The Tower Omaha’s Winter Challenge
One of the best things about winter (if that if even possible) is indoor workouts. The best possible indoor workout are stairs…and when I say stairs, I mean lots of stairs. On the 26th of February, 800 people will get that challenge as they slog their way up 40 flights of stairs at the First National Bank Building here in downtown Omaha. It’s always good fun. The link to the event site is listed below. As of this writing, the even if full. It sells out early each year and has become a very popular event.
