The Fitness Tech Podcast #10 RunKeeper Beats Angry Birds!
Jan 3rd
Jim and Jamie are back after the holidays to talk Christmas gifts that Santa brought. Jamie got a seriously nice new tech gift that has a fitness spin! Jim warns of some fitness products that you should carefully consider BEFORE you purchase, especially if you see it on TV.
This week RunKeeper released an update to its RunKeeper Application for both iPhone and Android. It’s FREE to download in the month of January. Up until now there as been a scaled down free version and a fee based Pro version. Both are now free for the taking. You can find both in the app store for each phone. The download has been very popular and smoked past the very popular Angry Birds.
We talked more about the FitBit and the BodyBugg and the success both products have had in the fitness space. Links are below.

The Drobo Trilogy / Can it Replace Drive Extender?
Jan 2nd
I (Jim) have spend a bunch of time over the last three weeks doing an in depth review of Drobo for the Home Server Show. While the purpose of the review was to determine if a Drobo could be used to replace the current functionality that is now in Drive Extender in a Windows Home Server. If you have never seen a Drobo in action, you might want to see these reviews. Click Here to Review
What is a Drobo you ask? Think of it as a data robot that helps you protect your data. It’s a simple, scalable and reliable data storage solution for the home, professional, small to medium business, and corporate department. More info can be found at drobo.com
In the next couple of weeks I will have a review here that covers the Drobo and how you might use it to back up your data with Windows 7. If you have any specific questions that you would like covered in the review, please send me an email, podcast@theaverageguy.tv.

Getting Started with Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011
Dec 30th
Over the past few weeks we’ve been covering the different offerings available in Windows Live Essentials 2011. Another program we’ll take a look at this week is Live Photo Gallery 2011. Photo Gallery is a set of tools for organizing, sharing, touching up you photos and publishing them online. It has a lot of features not included in previous versions such as the ability to create Panoramas, movies, slideshows, and actually has an interesting search feature using Facial Recognition.
Install & Setup Live Photo Gallery 2011
Installation is simple and very similar to any of the other Live Essentials programs you may have installed already. Right-click on the Windows Live Installer file and click install as Administrator.
Remember that you aren’t required to install everything in the Live Essentials Suite…only what you want.
As we mentioned in our previous post about Live Movie Maker, the two install together.
RunKeeper Pro for Android and iPhone is FREE in January
Dec 30th
If you have an Android or iPhone, your are getting a late Christmas present from the makers of the RunKeeper App. It’s FREE to download in the month of January. Up until now there as been a scaled down free version and a fee based Pro version. Both are now free for the taking. You can find both in the app store for each phone.
I use RunKeeper and have really liked it. The free version can be a little inaccurate on the mileage at times, but the rest of the application works great. It will also auto tweet right to Twitter for ya!
The Pro Version comes with audio cues, customized interval workouts, integrated RunKeeper FitnessClasses and best of all…NO ADS!
There is more info on RunKeeper at http://runkeeper.com
