#21 The Home Tech Podcast: Removing Malware, Easy Transfers, Video Sharing, Virtualisation and A Google A Day
Jim, Christian and Andrew are this week joined by Mike Howard for this weeks installment of the Home Tech Podcast.
The guys start off talking about their choice of Virus and Malware removal tools, with Microsoft Security Essentials, Avira AntiVirus, Malwarebytes, McAfee Stinger and various Symantec Removal Tools, as well as the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, which comes from Microsoft via Windows Update.
Jim talks about using the Microsoft Easy Transfer Wizard for moving files off an infected machine, as well as moving the files back after rebuilding a machine. The Easy Transfer Wizard can also be used for upgrading to Windows 7 from Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Andrew introduces the guys to a Google a Day, which is a bit of Google fun, in the form of a website that asks you a daily question, and uses your Google skills to find the answer. If you can’t work out the answer, the site shows you how they would use Google to find the answer. As the folks at a Google a Day say, “There’s no right way to solve it, but there’ only one right answer”. Christian and Mike tells us how to use the various Advanced Search Options, Jim and Andrew talk about some of the built-in Google Calculator options that can be called from the search bar itself, and Mike and Christian then talk about how to search within a website from Google itself. e.g. to search for John Zajdler’s Multipoint Server Article within The Average Guy website, you would enter “multipoint site:theaverageguy.tv” into the Google Search Bar.
