Eagle 10K – April 24th, 2010
It was an early start this morning and a 45 minute drive out to Eagle Nebraska for the 2nd Annual Eagle 10K/5K/1M run. This is a small town race run by the local PTA to benefit the public school. They had a little over 100 for both the 5 and 10K. I didn’t stay for the one mile kids run.
The course was your typical flat Nebraska run out on the MOPAC just east of Lincoln. It had rained a good part of the night but the trail was still in very good shape. The conditions were fast.
I finished the race in 49.28 (a modern day PR and first sub 50 in a while) with some energy left at the end. Overall I finished 13th in a competitive guys field. Since this was just a tune up for the Lincoln Marathon, I will consider it a huge success. The hours of training are really starting to payoff!
Sarah got the chance to join me from the sidelines and her support was great. It was great to have her there since she typically doesn’t get to go. She took the pictures!
Next Sunday is the Lincoln marathon and another big challenge. I ran in Kansas City last October and had to quit running at 20. Walking the remainder was a moral victory, but I want to run a complete marathon none the less. My KC time was [4:53] and will be shooting for a solid 4 or [4:15] in Lincoln. With all the prep I’ve done, I’m feeling very good about my chances. I will post my results here with a race recap as well.
Looking ahead, I have the Bellevue Runway Run (7 miles) in two weeks and the Papillion half marathon in three. Four weeks from now I will be a volunteer for the Council Bluffs Marathon and take a rest from the sidelines. It will be a challenging 3 weeks.
Thanks to all my training partners over the last two months. Everybody run well next week. Gallup has over 40 individuals registered for the race! Congratulation Ryan for your huge success!
