Android – Just announced a new app (Dave,we can chat about this) Different Android Platforms (I use Overcast) – iPhone – Apple Podcasts How else are people listening and why? ——————————————————— Would you pay to play? – Facebook Groups may soon charge monthly subscription fees for access to groups.  Facebook will now allow group leaders to start charging $ to $ a month for membership in certain groups.  It’s testing this out with parenting and cooking groups first “For now, the feature is still an experiment on mobile and Facebook won’t be getting a cut of the subscription fees. As part of standard App Store and Play Store policies, Apple and Google will be taking a percentage of user subscriptions fees via iOS and Android, however. Still, this is just the beginning for Facebook’s efforts to monetize groups, which, unlike the News Feed, does not rely on advertising.” ———————————————————————- Instagram reaches 1 billion users this week. “It’s unclear where most of these new users came from. Last year, most of the growth was attributed to the launch of Stories. Over the past year, the company’s expanded in-app creation tools by letting users add GIFs, emoji sliders, and polls to their stories. Meanwhile, Snapchat is still trying to grow its user base. It most recently averaged 191 million daily active users. Instagram also announced its new IGTV standalone app today that’ll feature long-form, vertical videos, in an attempt to compete against not only Snapchat Discover but also YouTube.” “According to multiple reports, Instagram is launching a new video venture later today: a new hub for longer-form content that’s designed to compete with videos from YouTube creators. TechCrunch reports that the hub will be named “IGTV” and will be part of the Instagram app’s Explore tab. The videos will be vertically orientated, full-screen, up to 4K resolution, and as long as 60 minutes (instead of the current limit of 60 seconds).” Reviews Jim – Had to purchase a new network switch this weekend.  24 Port Switch that is not sexy and just works. Will work with side sleepers as well. 16 hours of battery life. “You can adjust the volume level for each sound so that it can fully mask whatever noise is sabotaging your sleep. Bose told me that it mastered each audio track to specifically hide the audio frequencies of snoring, traffic, and so on.” Watch for reviews in the coming weeks!
