New back in the day segment on HGG.  Contact me jim@theaverageGuy.tv and we can discuss

Tax Issues

  1. Tax software fail – turbo tax has the wrong calculations for the standard deductions.  Not in my favor.  Refiling on paper.  I think I will go with that method from here on out.
  2. The IRS has a pretty good website.  You can get all current and prior forms at https://www.irs.gov/

Mining Updates

I am using 2 GTX 1060s in the Studio Core i7 box .  Nicehash running full speed.  $2 to $3 a day.  65 to 75 a month.  About $20 in power each month.  Here are the cards I have been using.

BOINC

Get more on BOINC at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/

Most of the rest of the PCs are running BOINC with CPU processing against the World Community Grid.  https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/discover.action#introduction

World Community Grid (WCG) is an effort to create the world’s largest public computing grid to tackle scientific research projects that benefit humanity.[4]Launched on November 16, 2004, it is co-ordinated by IBM with client software currently available for Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android operating systems.

Using the idle time of computers around the world, World Community Grid’s research projects have analyzed aspects of the human genome, HIV, dengue, muscular dystrophy, cancer, influenza, Ebola, virtual screening, rice crop yields, and clean energy. As of April 2017, the organization has partnered with 466 other companies and organizations to assist in its work, has over 58,000 active registered users, and a combined total run time of over 1.4 million years

How to Earn Gridcoin with Pool Research via grcpool.com – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm2E6pQ-Ifw – This will get you started if you want to use BOINC processing to earn GRC Coin.

SIA

Wieger and I still continue to work with SIAcoin and their storage coin offering. WHAT IS SIA?   I have almost 85GB and Mike is just over 500Gb now.  The average price is about .35 cents a TB.  Really cheap storage for those using it.  More info at http://Sia.tech

Jon has got me thinking about security and taxes with all this mining activity.  If you are joining me on this adventure, it needs to be on your radar too.  Selling coins is a taxable event.

You can follow the SIA experience on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SiaTechHQ/

Some interesting issues?

  1. Do I want to give these new Coin wallets my Drivers license?
  2. Can I keep these coins with cloud wallet or should I download them to a hardware wallet?

There is a Crypto currency Topic set over at Home Server Show.com forums.

CrashPlan Update

Migration to CrashPlan Pro will be complete tomorrow.  1.3 TB moved back up.  Totally my fault.  Using the HP N40L as the Home Server now.  Stablebit Drivepool installed and ready for some upgraded drives.  3 x 1TB.  Need a little bit more space.  Will pull some over from the Drobo.

You can get more info on Crashplan at https://www.crashplan.com/en-us/

Got some recommendations for how you label your drives?  jim@theAverageGuy.tv
