2010 Beer and Bagel Run–11/7/2010

November 7, 2010 – This morning was the 18th running of the Peak Performance Beer and Bagel Run at Quarry Oak Golf Course just west of the Omaha metro in Ashland.  The course was 3.82 miles this year, but didn’t lack any challenge.  Lots of hills, a creek to navigate and a combination of dirt, gravel and pavement running surfaces made it your not so typical race.  The weather couldn’t have been any better! A bit chilly at the start, but it warmed up nicely by race time.

Last year the race had some 500 runners.  This year there were well over 1400.  Not sure why the 3 fold jump in runners, but Peak Performance (shoe store here in Omaha) did a nice job of getting everyone where they needed to be in time to race.  There was plenty of places to sit and meet with other runners around some pre-race bagels.  They also had plenty of beer and chili available at the end of the race.  It got a little windy and cool after we came in, so the warm chili hit the spot!

The usual running crowd was there.  Funny how you run into the same runners each weekend.  With Omaha being a fairly closed system, it makes sense.  We have a very engaged and supportive running culture here.  If you have ever considering getting out for a run, this is the place to start!

It was also the inaugural run for the new “Mud Mafia!” running club.  About 8 of us sported the new shirts and enjoyed some time together.  The group leader and founder lead by example and posted a [30:58] for the race!  Congrats Carrie!

Speaking of the MM, we are having a coming out party, Saturday, November 13th at Dante Pizzeria in Omaha. [8:30] is the start time! Come get great food and drinks, and meet the newest racing team in Omaha.  Everyone is welcome.

With the final results in (btw, nice job Peak Performance for getting those out so quickly!), it looks like I placed 239th out of 1457.  I ran with Michelle (234) and she usually smokes me.  She was kind enough to let me keep her pace!  Nice job Michelle!  Her sister Sara won her age group at some ridiculous time of [28:31].  Congratulation Sara!  Full results are available at http://www.onlineraceresults.com/event/view_event.php?event_id=5885
