Enjoyed the conversation on what you are comfortable fixing things in the house. I too go to YouTube for issues. I love to work on the computer, smartphone, tablets, etc. I had an iPad mini where the screen broke. In combination with YouTube and Google to find parts, it was painful but cheap fix. Painful because you have to get through all that adhesive. Recently bought an older MacBook as a backup and installed a new battery, upgraded RAM and to internal SSD. All thanks to YouTube. The next project will be upgrading the iMac with an internal SSD. I just have to make sure I don’t fall down the YouTube rabbit hole and watch unrelated content. Thanks and keep up the great work! Kwesi —————————————————————————- Nice show today. I too find YouTube to be a great source of fixit wisdom. I for one hate working on engines and anything I have to crawl under or get upside down to work on. Unfortunately, our hill mower seems to demand lots of attention ;( Thanks for the show and your diverse view of the world! Neal ——————————————————————————- Jim, I never really write to the podcasts I listen to; when I have thoughts.  However, a few things have come into my mind. And, I actually have some free time.  Firstly, I have really been enjoying the new format. It is more along the lines of what I always hoped the show would be.  I hope that you will continue to get good ideas from the audience to carry it forward. The main reason I wanted to write was in response to your discussion at the end of last week’s show.  You and Mike were discussing engaging young folks in coding/ technology. The discussion turned to transportation.  You had floated the idea of Uber. I wanted to let you know about an Uber feature called Uber EVENTS. I have never seen an advertisement for it.  However, I have used it a few times for work events; where I want to ensure my staff has safe transportation. It allows you to setup a window of time the credit is available with a limit on the ride cost.  You can enter a list of people and it will send out unique codes or you can have it generate one code. It also lets you setup a limit on the entire event. I think it is an outstanding service. I wish more people knew about it. Thanks for the great show.  Keep up the good work. As part of standard App Store and Play Store policies, Apple and Google will be taking a percentage of user subscriptions fees via iOS and Android, however. Still, this is just the beginning for Facebook’s efforts to monetize groups, which, unlike the News Feed, does not rely on advertising.” ———————————————————————- Instagram reaches 1 billion users this week. “It’s unclear where most of these new users came from. Last year, most of the growth was attributed to the launch of Stories. Over the past year, the company’s expanded in-app creation tools by letting users add GIFs, emoji sliders, and polls to their stories. Meanwhile, Snapchat is still trying to grow its user base. It most recently averaged 191 million daily active users. Instagram also announced its new IGTV standalone app today that’ll feature long-form, vertical videos, in an attempt to compete against not only Snapchat Discover but also YouTube.” “According to multiple reports, Instagram is launching a new video venture later today: a new hub for longer-form content that’s designed to compete with videos from YouTube creators. TechCrunch reports that the hub will be named “IGTV” and will be part of the Instagram app’s Explore tab. The videos will be vertically orientated, full-screen, up to 4K resolution, and as long as 60 minutes (instead of the current limit of 60 seconds).” Reviews Jim – Had to purchase a new network switch this weekend.  24 Port Switch that is not sexy and just works.
